A backlight is not an accessory to an LCD module; it is half of what the user sees. Brightness uniformity, colour point and lifetime are set by the backlight unit, which is why HZY treats LED backlights as a product line of their own — designed and laminated in the same factory as the glass they light, on fully automatic backlight laminators recorded in our audited equipment list.

The range

  • Colour backlights — white for TFT and general modules; red, blue, green, yellow and amber for monochrome displays where the background colour is part of the product's identity (alarms, instruments, branded equipment).
  • Special-shaped backlights — rhombus and other non-rectangular light guides for shaped displays, including VA segment builds where the backlight outline follows the glass.
  • Module-matched units — backlight dimensions, LED count and forward current are specified against the module they serve, from micro TFT modules to 128×64 graphic COB builds.

Why separate backlight sourcing goes wrong

Teams who buy glass from one vendor and backlights from another inherit the interface problems: light-guide thickness vs module stack height, LED binning vs the brightness written in the product spec, and a diffuser stack nobody owns. When the same factory draws the module and its backlight, brightness is specified once — as a finished-module number — and 100% inspection covers the assembled result, not two halves.

Specifying a backlight

Tell us the module or glass it must fit (outline and viewing area), the target brightness at the display surface, the colour, and the drive conditions your board provides. For existing HZY modules the match is already engineered; for custom glass, backlight tooling is quoted with the glass as one project — see custom LCD displays. Background on how backlight choice interacts with glass type is in our LED backlight guide.

Backlights ship with modules or standalone for existing production lines. Output on the audited profile is 2 million units per month, and the line supports the colour and shaped variants above at production scale, not as samples-only specials.
