A custom LCD display project usually fails on scope, not technology: too much is customised at once, tooling is quoted before the drawing settles, and the sample loop drags. Our approach is to start from the closest standard model in our range — and we have a deep bench, with 112 TFT models and full monochrome lines in production — then customise only what your product actually needs.
What can be customised
- Size and outline — a new active area or outline on TFT and monochrome glass, including round, bar, square and shaped cuts where the platform supports them.
- Brightness — backlight changes from standard indoor levels to high-brightness builds such as 600 cd/m² panels for daylight-facing equipment.
- Interface — SPI, QSPI, MIPI, RGB or MCU on TFT modules; parallel 8080 and serial options on monochrome COG; pinout and connector changes.
- Touch — capacitive touch panels on selected TFT sizes, resistive touch where gloves or stylus input matter.
- FPC — custom FPC length, bending direction, pin definition and stiffener, one of the most common and cheapest changes we make.
- Segment content — for custom segment LCDs, the glass itself is drawn around your icons, digits and annunciators.
Three levels of project
Level 1 — parameter change. Same glass, different backlight brightness or FPC, or an interface variant the platform model already supports. No glass tooling; samples in about 2 weeks.
Level 2 — platform customisation. A touch/backlight combination we have not listed, or a new outline built on an existing platform family. Be precise about what this means: the FPC, backlight and touch layers are configuration work, but a new active area is new glass and follows the tooling path. Drawing first (about 3 days), any tooling quoted against the drawing, then samples.
Level 3 — fully custom. New segment glass, a special-shaped VA display, or a module designed around your enclosure from the start. We work from your samples or designs — the audited profile lists full customisation and ODM service — and quote glass, FPC, touch, backlight and bezel tooling as separate line items so you can see what drives cost.
What we need from you
A target diagonal and resolution if you have them; the host interface your board provides; brightness or sunlight conditions; operating temperature; and the enclosure drawing if the outline is fixed. Missing pieces are fine — the LCD module and TFT module catalogues are the fastest way to anchor the conversation to a real starting model.
Timelines and terms, stated plainly
Drawing proposals take about 3 days, samples about 2 weeks, and mass production about 5–6 weeks after sample approval, per our published factory FAQ. Samples can be paid by PayPal; production runs on T/T terms, shipped EXW Shenzhen or FOB/CIF/CFR. Minimums vary by model and by how much tooling is involved, so we quote MOQ per project instead of publishing a single number that would be wrong in both directions.
Every custom build is 100% functionally inspected before shipment, and drawings plus test reports are available for your records — the same documentation discipline we apply to standard industrial LCD displays.
