STN positive gray, transmissive: the indoor graphic workhorse specification. Transmissive means the backlight is the light source — the right choice for equipment that lives indoors under controlled lighting, where it delivers the best contrast per milliamp. This listing documents the classic build that thousands of instrument designs standardised on.

About this module
COB (chip-on-board) construction mounts the controller on a PCB behind the glass, which makes the module rigid, connector-friendly and easy to fix behind a front panel with screws or a bezel. It is the traditional build for character and panel graphic modules, and the one service teams prefer: a COB module can be unplugged and replaced in the field without touching the glass. The cost of that convenience is thickness — plan the depth behind the panel accordingly.
Electrically these modules speak the classic parallel MPU interface of their format (with serial variants where the controller supports them), and character formats follow the HD44780 command-set standard that decades of firmware already speaks. Customisation covers backlight colour and brightness, fluid type, connector style and, within the format, outline variants dimensioned in the listings. Every unit is 100% visually and functionally inspected before shipment.
